HTE

An update about the boys school:

It is now official!  The United States Green Building Council has completed its review of all the design, construction, and operations documentation for the “HTHCV K8” project, and it has earned "LEED Platinum", their highest honor.  We will receive a beautiful glass plaque and certificate, and the US Green Building Council will want to hold a ceremony, since there are less than 20 schools in the world with this level of honor.  A special thank you goes to Christopher Gerber, HTH Facilities Director and Paul Dooley, HTH Project Manager for their efforts throughout the process to make our green school so successful. It was already internationally recognized as a case study in the sustainable design of learning environments, and now has a gorgeous plaque to show off, too.

• We continue to host visiting educators from around the world. These educators are here to observe our example of Project-Based Learning at the Elementary level. They spend their day on campus talking with students and teachers, and looking at student work.  This week we had teachers, principals and superintendents from British Columbia and New York.  Next week we will host educators from North Carolina, Hawaii and South Africa.  These visits benefit the HTe community as well as the visitors:  Questions from the educators help HTe teachers articulate what we are doing and our rationale for each project (which makes us more thoughtful about what we have chosen) and they are another opportunity for our students to share their learning with others.
